Ocean Obsession Layout

Hello Happy Scrappers

Wow, so many posts and so much to "Sea" πŸ˜†

I have made many projects these past months, and haven't had the time to add them to my Blog.

Sooo tonight I am posting and catching up.

This post is about a single page layout I made for the International ITAC '17 challenge

CHALLENGE 3 – OCEANIA

Oceania is a continent containing many low-lying islands which has been populated by countless different ETHNIC groups for many millennia. Located in the deep blue Pacific Ocean, Oceania is a continent of a thousand islands and it’s the next excursion on our tour around the world.
Whatever form your project takes, it should tell a story, be inspired from the images below, and should include at least one of the following elements;
  • Patterns inspired by traditional symbols (Maori tattoos, Dots/dashes of aboriginal Arts…)
  • Think Monochromatic black and white or think colors of the Earth.
  • Some sort of organic or natural material(s) (earth, stone, bone, bark, wood, fibres…)
  • Shapes inspired by traditional or indigenous art

I tried to incorporate as many of the elements above.

I liked the earth tones but wanted to add black elements , love the bold effect it gives.

I used shells and a piece of bark under the title, as natural materials.

I used my Silhouette Cameo to die cut the mesh/net, anchors and title.

I brushed the shells and starfish with 13@rts Gesso and highlited with Patina Victorian Gold.

I absolutely love the photos I used. I love the sea. So calming and tranquil
I used an image of the ocean in Bora-Bora and Australia - Part of the Oceania. But I had to include
an image of the English shore, as it is so beautiful as well.

I was so involved with this layout, I forgot to take photos of the steps πŸ˜‰

Thank you for visiting my blog

Wish you many happy scrappy hours of crafting this weekend

Asia Serenity

Hi all you Happy Scrappers

Hope you have been having an inspired week

Todays post is a double Journal page about Asia

I had so much fun creating this project.

This project was inspired by the  INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT OF ART & CRAFT... ITAC'17!
Challenge 2 - Asia #AALL&CREATE

Requirements:
Each project (Scrapbook Layout, Card, Canvas, Art Journal, Assemblage... or any other project) for this challenge, regardless of the format or techniques used, should take inspiration from the image below and should include at least one of the following elements;

· Motifs inspired by mandalas
· Geometric shapes
· Tiles - ceramic, pantiles, glazed tiles, or their designs...
· Asiatic flowers, such as cherry blossom, chrysanthemum, orchids, lotus, Frangipani, lilies, hibiscus etc..
· Calligraphy or handwriting
· Fabric, faded or dyed
· Powdered pigments

To start this project, I used patterned paper as the background. I printed Mandala's and Chinese symbols on Tissue paper (black and brown) . I then cut these out and adhered them using 13@rts gel medium. I used stamps on the background and Circle stencil with 13@rts Modeling paste.

I printed Cherry blossoms on a branch and used Dimensional glaze on the printed image. I let this dry and then fussy cut the blossoms. I fussy cut some patterned flowers and added some more flowers.

I added my Home made Patina pastes for the powder pigment elements. The instructions for my home made patina paste can be found HERE

The photos I used were taken when we went to visit the Peace Pagoda at Willen Lake in Milton Keynes. Sooo beautiful and definately has such a tranquil feel.

Thank you for stopping by and hope you enjoyed this project

Have fun and Happy Scrappin'

A Handful of Silver

Hello Happy Scrappers

Thank you for popping in today.

Hope you are having an awesome Bank holiday and using the extra time to scrap,
scrap and more scrapping.

I created this layout below for "White with....1"

What an amazing Blog, the Talent is so inspiring and the challenge does test your skills
which is so awesome. It allows to minimize or maximize the colour scheme and learn to
create your own backgrounds .

Click on the image to check out the challenge and the awesome blog.

I had so much fun using just the Silver and White.

Here you can see the beautiful shimmer and shine of the silver spray I used on the background.

I first added some stenciling with texture past and some stamping with black and grey ink.

I also added some white splatter.

I added some ribbon gauze and some silver embellishments

The paper roses were white but I painted them with Silver metallic paint.

I added some stitching on the layers and added die cuts inked with black / grey ink

I added the mini playing cards that I chalked with black ink.

Thank you so much for popping over.

Check out the blog and have some fun.

Harmony & Serenity

Hello Happy Scrappers

Thank you for stopping over.

Hope you enjoy this post as much as I enjoyed putting my creation together.

I was totally taken by this challenge by Lindy's gang - The colour palette is
beautiful, it is calming and uplifting.

When I started this project I wasn't sure what I was going to do.

But has I started mixing the colours and creating the layers, I felt so uplifted.
I think it is the colours and the harmony they create.

I used the Wild Prairie Magicals and Flat Neon Graffiti Magicals.

You definitely have to have this product in your craft stash.
I mixed the Magicals with more or less water depending on the intensity or hue of
the colour I wanted.

As I added layers and colours my memories went back to my Wedding day (the feeling these
colours inspired), and this is what inspired the Lyrics I added to my project. These were the
words of our Wedding song (performed by Wet Wet Wet)

Harmony and Love.

I added stamps to the background as well as musical notes and stenciling. I stamped the "note"on acetate and embossed the stamp - remembering not hold the heat gun for too long in one spot as the acetate tends to warp. But remember as you finish melting the embossing powder and the acetate is still warm, you can kinda flatten it again. Be careful not to burn.

I added some pearls, beads and sequence, some bling and layers of chippies and embellishments.

I added some material doily and ribbon gauze. I added some clear embossing to some points
on the chippies. I painted the main pink Chippie with Poppin' Pink Magical powder,
mixed with Gesso and then embossed with fine clear glitter embossing powder. It gave
such a beautiful shimmer.

I used the Bachelor Button Blue Magical Powder with less water, to colour the flowers and add some intense colour to the beads.

I hope you found inspiration today and are happy scrappin' the rest of this week.

the incredible work by the DT Team.

Thanking you for popping in

Rome Ma Ma Maaa

Hello Happy Scrappers

Hope you have had a creative start to your week and its full of awesomeness

Today I am sharing my entry for the ChallengeS below - Soooo Exciting

The Mixed media Place challenge has an exquisite colour palette - Obviously love the blue.
It just made me feel happy -

An Internationally Global Tournament - Full of challenges per week.
Click on the images to find out more. Challenge 1 - Europe

#itac17 #itac17challenge1 #aallandcreate

Now.... for my project I have entered for Challenges:

I was inspired by the challenge and the requirements:
It should include some of the following;
A face
Papers (newspaper, printed paper, rice paper…etc.)
Letters, numbers
Blue for the colour of the European Union, Union Jack...
Ribbon, twine, string or lace…
Textures – take inspiration from history from ancient civilisations to the fall of the Berlin Wall
Something both vintage and modern

How much fun is this - Love the colour Blue - My Fav. and having to incorporate as much of the above pushed me to try some things I haven't. My Sister had just been to Italy and this was ideal

I started with a flat canvas, and added some embellishments from my craft stash, found a
roman statuette that had broken off an old clock (for the face) and chippies: Roman numbers,
shapes and compass etc.

I also embossed cardboard with my Spellbenders Brick wall folder and cut it into strips, and resin
embellishments for texture.
I used lace ribbon, cotton, flowers and some metal embellishments.

I glued most of the embellishments down and painted them with Gesso - 13@rts.
I painted the project with about 3 layers.

I used 13@rts modeling paste to create long drips down the board.
I then used Lindy's Magicals to add colour

I did layers over layers of the two colours until I was happy with the intensity of the colours
and blending of the layers.
I used Dimension glaze on the Roman numbers, butterfly and "drips" to add attractive detail.

I added some small clear pearls to add more texture.

I used a dry bush with ColourArte Primary elements - Stargazer to highlight some areas and intensify colour. I also used Ranger Patina - Victorian Gold to high light the chain and raised points of the embellishments. I used both on the edges of the flowers to add depth and colour contrast.

I used Tim Holt's Distress Ink - Gathered twigs to high light the raised texture of the bricks and
some of the chippies.

Finally I added the beautiful photo of my sister and niece standing in front of the Colosseum

Here are the products I used:  (click on the products listed for more info)

*  13@rts Modeling paste
*  13@rts White Gesso
*  Lindy's Stamp Gang Magicals: Bachelor Button Blue & Mission Bells Brown
*  ColourArte Primary elements - Stargazer
*  Ranger Patina - Victorian Gold
*  Tim Holt's Distress Ink - Gathered twigs
*  Dimension glaze

I  hope you enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed creating this project.

Hoping you feel inspired, click on the ITAC 2017 above to join.

Wishing you happy Scrappin'

DIY : Patina Rust pastes and Patina mixes

Welcome Happy Scrappers

So glad you stopped by again.

If you are new to my Blog, I hope you enjoy what you see, learn a technique or two
and leave feeling inspired.

Today, well tonight... I had to just share with you all how to make your very own Patina
Mix and Patina rust paste.

I know the Patina rust paste and paint that we buy are quite expensive, and the little jars
are not very big, so we treasure the product highly and use when necessary.

But this does not really give us a chance to experiment and try out new tricks and
techniques - in worry that it may finish too quickly.

And I really like to try things out in my Art journal first. Sometimes I use too
much and some times too little but this is where I trial and error.

So, I keep the originals for my creations and I then know how much to use.

After surfing the web and checking out some recipes, I tried making my own and
WOW it turned out brilliant.

Before I start though, a big thank you to my biggest supporter - Hubby. I really wanted
to make it today, so he took me to the hardware to get the joint compound and
a bag of fine sand. he helped me choose the right the products and off we go.

Lets start with Patina paste

So here is my recipe.

What you will need:

* Aleene's Clear gel Tacky Glue
* Joint compound / Filler
* Gloss Gel medium / Mod podge Gloss/ Multi Medium gloss (must be thick and dry clear)
* Acrylic Paint - Brown, Black, Teal, Blue and Orange (or your preferred colour)
* 13@rts Ayeeda Metallic multipurpose paint - Bronze or any Bronze metallic paint you have
* Ranger Patina - Victorian Gold (optional - add a few drops when you add the metallic paint)
* Spoon
* Containers to hold pastes that seal tightly (size depends on how much you make)
* Spatula to mix
* Container/s to mix the pastes in
* Wet wipes - helps to keep the mess to a minimum
* Craft sheet or piece of plastic to work on (easier to clean up)

What you need to do:

Keep the measurements in proportion if you choose to make more or less

Firstly measure 1 teaspoon of  Tacky glue, 1 teaspoon Gloss Gel Medium and
1 teaspoon of filler in the mixing container

give the above a good mix. Then add 1 teaspoon acrylic paint - I used Blue and 1 teaspoon
metallic paint. This gives it a beautiful shimmer.

Mix the ingredients well. Make sure it has all mixed in.

Please remember it is 11pm at night while I write this blog,  so the photos do not do the
beautiful shimmer paste its due justice. The Patina mix has a lovely gloss shine and stunning
shimmer.

I split this blue mix in half - 1st half is the Patina paint mix. place this is a sealable container.
The second half I am going to use to make the Patina rust paste.

With the second half still in the mixing jar, I had 2 spoons of fine sand and 1/2 a spoon of
Teal acrylic paint. Give this a good mix. Make sure the sand has mixed in properly.
Store this in another sealable container.

And there we go - Patina paint and Patina Rust paste done.

Use your wet wipes to clean your spoon and spatula and any messiness on your craft sheet.
Give your mixing bowel a good wash before mixing the next colour. If your containers are
big enough, you could mix the ingredients in it and then split the batch.

So now do the same mix as above using the next acrylic paint colour of your choice.

TIP: if you use brown paint to make the next batch - Patina paint, you can add 1/2 teaspoon of black
paint with the fine sand to create the Patina rust paste - the darker colour gives the real effect.

How to use:

I made Brown Patina Rust paste, Teal Rust paste and Orange Rust paste.
I used the Blue Patina paint as the base on a page in my art journal, and .....I  don't have to
worry about using as much as I want, cos I can just make more 😁

I painted the whole page with the Blue Patina Paint. I dried it using a heat gun.
Wish you could see the lovely shimmer it has.

I added a Chippie and some resin gears, as well as a resin butterfly - I will definitely
share more awesomeness with you regarding these resin embellishments that I made.
Yip, I made them - but that is for next time.

I then painted the embellishments with brown acrylic paint. I painted the butterfly with
yellow acrylic paint. - can you see the lovely shimmer on the background.

Now I add the Patina Rust Paste I made - Dark Brown. Using a dry brush, I add the paste to the
embellishments, you can't really paint it on so you dab it on. I covered all the
embellishments with it except the butterfly.

I then dabbed on Teal Rust Paste randomly on the embellishments, I built up a few blobs
here and there.

And then..... my booboo.
With the intention of using Ranger Distress Dabber - white on my butterfly, I turned the bottle
over to dab and .... the paint poured out 😱

I used some white paint to lighten one of the patina paints i made and i forgot to close it
Have you eveeeeer.

I managed to paint it off and use wet wipes to get most of the white paint off. But fear not.
I re-did the Brown rust paste and painted the background again where I messed😷

I did remove the butterfly to finish this off separately (bha ha ha ha ) Learnt my lesson.

I added dabs of Orange Patina Rust Paste

Once all was dry - with the aid of my handy heat gun - I added my butterfly. Already painted
and ready. I used my finger and dabbed a bit of the Metallic Bronze/ Gold paint lightly over a few of the raised Patina Rust Pastes. It enhances the  rust effect.

I had so much fun doing this journal page that I grabbed some more chippies to Rustify.

Rock on     #PATINARUST       #PATINAPASTE            #PATINAPAINT

All the Patina rust pastes and paints I used were the home made ones. Please note that
I do  not confirm that this mix is better than the original product or that you should not use
the original product but it is pretty close and pretty handy to be able to make a mix when you
need a lot or run out of the original product - Just saying 😏.

Thank you for stopping by and I appreciate the time you take to read my posts.

Wishing you an awesome crafting day ahead
